The Power of Belief

“The height of your success is determined by the depth of your belief.” -Martin C. Jischke

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Our belief at the beginning of a doubtful undertaking is the one thing that ensures a successful outcome of our venture.” -William James

PowerofBeliefIsn’t it true that at the root level of all our actions stems our beliefs? Our beliefs drive our actions and our actions dictate our results. What results are you currently having in your life? Are you where you envisioned yourself to be or are you a little off course? The good news is that although, at this moment, we are the product of our past, our future has not yet been written. We can choose today, at this moment, to decide our future and this begins with belief.

What is belief and how does it determine our future? Belief comes from two words, be and lief. be derives from the root word being or put another way, a state of existence. The second half, lief, comes from the Indo European word leove which means love. Belief means to be in love with. Ask yourself, am I in love with what I am doing or more importantly am I in love with myself? Belief not only is a function of our thoughts, it is a function of the heart. “Change your beliefs and you will change your actions. Change your actions and you will change your results. Change your results and you will change your life.” Ty Bennett

While our beliefs can be very empowering, they can be equally dis-empowering. Sometimes we hold negative beliefs about a person, event, circumstance and even ourselves. It is important to examine our beliefs and release those that are holding us back and sabotaging our potential. On the other hand, we need to embrace those beliefs that propel us forward.

Researchers have determined that less than 5% of the population writes down their goals. When we fail to write down our goals what message are we sending ourselves? Do we fail to write down our goals because we don’t feel that we will obtain them? What if a concrete knowledge of obtaining our goals is not necessary? We only need to have a belief in them or be in love with the result. Start now writing down your goals and be in love with the idea. When you are in love with your goals events, people and circumstances will begin to show up to assist you in achieving them. Remember that your beliefs drive your actions.

Much of my own conviction about belief was built through my study of a friend and mentors audio CD The Power of Belief by Ty Bennett. Ty Bennett is the Founder and President of Leadership Inc. You can purchase your own copy of The Power of Belief by visiting http://LeadershipInc.com/products. I fully encourage everyone who reads this post to get their own copy and apply the principles taught. If you are unable to get a copy contact me so that together we can make arrangements for you to have one.
